I want to recreate this specific cinematic halo/soft glow effect around the character, where the subject remains relatively sharp while the background falls heavily out of focus due to the camera’s shallow depth of field. The blurred background creates soft, bright areas of light that seem to wrap around the character’s silhouette, especially along the hair, shoulders, and edges, giving the subject a warm, dreamy halo. I’m looking for that polished, soft 3D/animated-film look rather than a simple outline or artificial rim light. For additional visual reference, the GoodChillStudio YouTube channel has several examples of this type of lighting, depth-of-field, bloom, and background blur effect that I’d like to use as inspiration when recreating it in Blender.https://youtu.be/su1vuFVxqq0?t=331
Welcome!
I’m not sure if I understood you right, but if you are talking about creating an edge mask to get some light bleeding onto your character in compositor, you can create a simple edge mask like this:
Generally, the glow effect is done with glare node:
Or you can combine them:
But if you want to have that very bright rim light effect with a distinctive bokeh blur, I would probably try to do it by rendering the scene twice: the normal render, then a render with only that bright light on, an then comp the rim light image on top of the original and add some bokeh blur to it in compositor:
And as a cherry on top, you could use the blurred version of the image to add some color onto the bright edge:
Hey Ty for your help, i Really appreciate it
