redefine loop

I’m working on a model where I’ve merged a couple of points. But now when I do a loop cut it tries to go via the old loop path.

How can I select some verticies and tell Blender that this is the new loop or can I?

Are you sure it’s merged - not just snapped to the new position. You can use W->remove doubles, to find out.
Also, you could perhaps try Knive (K)->Midpoints. I’ve found that it works many a time when loopcuts doesn’t
