I know this may be stupid…I mean I know I MUST be doing something stupid
I set my reference images (front, right-side and left-side). Then, when I started selecting things on the ‘front’, I noticed the model was actually not facing front. I know this, because I turned occlude on and selected a face in ‘front’ view and it selected a face on the rear of the model.
This was bizarre to me because I’ve done reference images many, many times without a problem. In order to work around this, I kept my front view as it was and I turned the actual model 180 deg on the Z axis. So then, of course, I had to assign the right side of my image to the ‘left’ ortho view and the left side image to the ‘right’ ortho view.
Blender 2.67a is what I’m currently using.
Note: all my axis are assigned correctly in the background image options.
Hopefully, you can see the weirdness in the image:
That’s the correct setup , Front Ortho is Negative -Y so the side view direction of the truck has to be Negative -Y aswell, Left / Right Ortho views are showing the correct side of the truck , imagine youself in front of the truck your right hand (Right Ortho View) will be the left side of the truck and so on, hope it makes sense.
As I said imagine yourself facing the truck , your left hand wil be Left Ortho View and it will show the right-side of the truck ’ the passenger side’ , the truck sides are determined by the drivers view not your view.
Edit: Maybe this image will explain better what i’m trying to say.
Thanks. I know the truck sides are determined by the driver’s view. I guess I never realized the ortho views didn’t follow that convention. I guess it makes more sense thinking about it from the front ortho view and then choosing your left and right sides. I got myself stuck on driver’s point of view. Thanks, the graphic helps too!
