Regarding Copy Texture from One Object to Another

Hi,

I am trying to copy the texture / material from Truck.001 (original) to Truck.002 (clone) as shown below.

When I use Ctrl+L and Link Materials, the result will become as below:

The clone will only copy one colour / texture.

Question 1: how can I copy / clone all the colour / texture properties from Truck.001 (original) to Truck.002 (clone) exactly without needing to reassign all the colour / texture properties again?

Following…

If I use Ctrl+L and Link Materials option, and modify one of the colour / texture on the clone (Truck.002), the original (Truck.001) will also change as show below:

Question 2: how can I “break” the link between Truck.001 (original) and Truck.002 (clone) after I copied the material / texture, so that I can modify the material on Truck.001 (original) and Truck.002 (clone) saperately?

Thank you.

Question 2 is easy: you have to “MAKE a SINGLE USER COPY” of each material in the new object.

Question 1.. I don’t understand how you copied/cloned the first truck: if you duplicate an object after you assigned the materials to it.. the copy will have the same materials as the original by default, everything is copied from the original (materials/modifiers/constraints whatever)

Thank for your reply.

Question 2: where can I find the option “make a single use copy”?

Question 1: I first make a model of Truck.001 (original), then Shift+D to duplicate multiple copies of clone, then only I start to assign material / texture on to Truck.001 (original) and trying to copy the materials / textures to Truck.002 (clone).

After replying the post then I realized: should I create the Truck.001 (original), assigned the materials / textures, then only I make Truck.002 (clone) and make it “make a single use copy” and edit on Truck.002 (clone)?

The option to “MAKE SINGLE USER” is in the Shader Editor/Material .. you have to click on the number indicating how many times the material is used in your file (next to the material name) to make it “single user”. A bit cryptic and not very intuitive.. but that’s how blender is xD

Yes, there’s no reason at all to duplicate an object before it’s finished and has all the materials assigned if you need an exact copy of it later (copy that you may always change after it has been created, anyway)..

All right. Thank you. I guess the problem solved. Let me try later.
