Is it possible to somehow open files with the regular Windows File Browser instead of the Blender File Browser?
I’m using a tool called “direct folders” to create shortcuts and use this within every program.
Would be nice to be able to use it with Blender as well.
Two things. First, Blender is a cross platform tool designed to operate the same on all platforms. Given the cross platform paradigm, if they integrated the Windows file manager the would also have to integrate the Mac and Linux systems. Second, the Blender file browser window has unique options for every file type you’re browse for. Integrating that into a native OS browser window isn’t simple, or even possible in some situations.(Linux has no “default” file manager)
Thanks for the replies guys.
I’m not a programmer but since almost every tool has a “default open dialogue window” to open its files I really cannot believe that it is hard to implement.
The only ones with custom file menus I know are Blender and Softimage XSI.
It’s not a big thing anyway but still it is a little bit annoying if you have to setup all your current project shortcuts twice.
Even Office doesn’t use the standard Windows file browser.
Doesn’t bother me that Blender doesn’t, but in Word it is incredibly aggravating.
Adobe… It depends. Has sort of a hybrid thing going on with video applications. Supposed to be more “new user” friendly, but as not a new user - I’m not a fan.
