Your artwork skills are certainly impressive but when working with clients they will only pay to get exactly what they want, dont let this put you off, you can just stack rejected designs and keep them in a portfolio
oh… yah… no doubt… I was not complaining… i was just saying I didn’t draw this seciffically for posting here… this was just kinda left overs… if you know what I mean… LOL!
LOL! I can kinda see why they rejected them… even though I thought they were as cool as hell… LOL!
This should absolutely never be true if you’re a working professional. You should always, without exception, get paid for the work you do, unless it’s strictly quid pro quo or pro bono. If you have a portfolio, they know what they’re getting. Not only does it hurt you to take on extra work without pay, but it hurts other artists when clients think they can always just con another sap (why pay this guy up front when we can just have someone else do work for free?).
@Luftmensch… good point… after all even some of the feilds where I work… AutoCADD type design work… (sort of my bread and butter business) much of what is done is very subjective… and there are some issues that are simply not worth the work… There are good clients and bad ones… at some point you have to start weeding out the ‘baddies’ and do what ever you can to hang on to the ‘goodies’ … once I know I have a good client… I will bend over backwards for them cause I know I will always get paid on time and get paid a fair wage… on the other hand Bad clients are going to mess you over on every single thing they can find too get away with…
I accept two kinds of jobs.
1: The client put the money in my escrow account. When the job is completed it is released to me.
2: They pay 25% for me to start, 25% when the design is done, 25% then they review, and 25% when I deliver the final product and assets. I always price myself so if they flee and don’t pay the final payment after I deliver it is ok, because that was just bonus money.
I still get burned every now and then, but not that often.
