Release Candidate 2

http://download.blender.org/release/Blender2.43rc/

on this site there’s some installers named RC2
is this the official release candidate 2?

i don’t quite see the diff between RC1

I suppose it would be if that is how they named it on the Blender.org site… downloading now to check it out. Thanks for the heads up

absolutly won me with rc2. just dumped 200 scripts in subfolders into .blender/scripts folder, with a few depriciation problems that the console not only notes but appears to give the soloution too. > Blender.Scene.getCurrent<> is depreciated
use Blender.Scene.GetCurrent<> instead
also some integer argument exeptions?
this should be a easy fix for most scripts.
Also very fast loading of scripts. Tested >
‘3d view hotspots’ (Scriptlink)
‘3d cursor menu’ (scriptlink)
Discombobulator, gen 3, convex hull, ant landscape, geodesic dome, solidify edges (wire), shell factory, nebular generator, many more.
this is good news, now I can go play with the new features.
love it already!
M.A.

@migero: I may be wrong, but from what I’ ve read, RCs are about increasing stability. Blenderbuilds.com reports that the CVS is frozen for feature updates.
@M.A.: good to know, now I can work with it. Thanks for that.

What’s up with the new license?

Isn’t Blender GPL?

I’m confused…

Laughing cheese: To what new license are you referring to?

When I installed RC2 it had a different license agreement…at least I think it was different; it’s been a while and I thought when you install the official release the license screen is the GNU license…this had a:confused: different one…

This is what I meant:

This version of Blender has been originally released at www.blender.org.
It is subject to the GPL license, which is part of this download.
For more information please review the Blender source code distribution,
which should be available at the same location as where you obtained
this version.

Ah, it mentions GPL…but I’m not sure what this is?

From what I understand they wait till they have all OS compiled before they officially annouce that another RC is ready for testing. Someone did mention that a new RC was on the way this weekend.

It is just a matter of time.

When I tried editing the depricated scripts, I just got more errrors…so avoid those scripts. Also, the Blender Library script crashes with this RC.

Also may crash if while using sculpt mode on a multi resolution of 6, then try to delete the lower resolutions. Blender just died… I am not sure if it is a bug or just my poor understanding of the sculpt mode feature.

@graphixsuz: probably just memory overload. 8 verts at resolution of 6 would be like 8-26-98-386-1538-6146 verts…and that’s just a cube.

Yeah, I was hoping it was something like that! Funny I started from a cube sub-divided once, then sculpted away. Well anyway, shows I will need to look at some documentation to make real use out of this feature. Thanks for the heads up!

Hmm, tried to work with the new multilayer images feature. I am able to render a multilayer image but Blender 2.43 RC2 (WindowsXP) crashes when I try to load the rendered image into the compositor.

Has anybody else tried this and had the same problem?

EDIT: reported to bug tracker
EDIT2: fixed

hi , do you guys know if i install 2.43rc2 do i still have 2.42(stable) or does it overinstalls on 2.42?

@giorgio: if you install it to the same directory, it will overwrite. the exe is always ‘blender’.

for release candidates it is best to install to a different directory, I usre a folder called rc2 & install there so stable version is not affected.
I must say that there is a considerable amount of script errors with most scripts, even if they work they still produce errors, as rc2 is compiled with Python 2.4 same as Blender 2.42a I would ask what has changed to cause these problems.

On the up side I managed to make a mesh with 8 million faces & verts with no problems.

thanks, M.A.

the preview of the images, does not work, when it is loaded, one texture with CRTL + the left key of the mouse!

New booleans are amazing!
