Removing a part of a face

Hello, I’m still very new to blender (and modeling in general) and I would like to know what it will take to remove a part of a face.

I would like to make holes in this disk in the tear shape I made. What are the steps I need to follow to make these “holes”?

although I am kind of new and getting back into things, there are a few options here. i would suggest finishing the rest of the model first as these methods get messy and could make future edits a real headache.

  1. knife cut. select the object in edit mode and hit K. click around your tear trace. this basically works like the lasso in photoshop if you are familiar with that. keep clicking around your shape with as much precision as you can. when you get back to the start connect the loop and hit ENTER. this will create an edge cut in your model. then you can just select the faces inside the “cut” and delete them.

  2. create a mesh out of the tear traces you made, extrude them a bit, and make a boolean cut from the first model. after you extrude the tear, move it into the first model. where the tear hits is where the cuts will be made. this is the most accurate but more messy method. once the shapes are intersected, click the first model, go to modifiers, select boolean, enter the name of your second model, select difference, then click apply. you can now move or delete the tear and the cut out will be in the first model.

hope this helps!
