Removing Doubles ??

Have had to bump up threshold sometimes for
Remove Doubles.
Is there some proper procedure for this?
I do: move slider (Merge Threshold) for remove doubles (appears in tool shelf) up until mesh starts to deform (you need to watch for this carefully) bring it back down slightly and it is OK.

Unsure if this is good approach, but as I see it removing doubles is now like adding
a mesh where settings come AFTER a default is drawn. Before 2.5, 2.6x all parameters were set before any thing was shown. This seems not practical for removing doubles especially since after setting the slider (Merge Threshold) any doubles removed fails to report the amount in the header. Report is there at default of .00010 setting but ‘Removed n Doubles’ report has disappeared after bumping slider up.

Could someone please correct me?

[Solved]

Never mind - using python console for this now.

i think this is still a bug i guess

but basically dynamic you change slider and it changes the mesh
but your right got to be carefull with how much is changed on the mesh or your might loose more then you have too !
but at least you can change the slider again to get back or Ctrl- Z to undo !

happy 2.6

where is the slider? I cant find it anywhere:(

Refer to the Operator tab , in the bottom of the right panel, -after- pressing W (remove double)

Or press F6 ( always -after- pressing W (remove double) ) to make the pop window featuring this slider appear in the 3D view

oh that done the job brilliantly, thank you very much
