Removing edges without deleting faces

Hi peeps ,

just wondering if there is a way to delete edges and vertecies without killing everything around it… i know in 3ds max you can hit backspace to do this but i was wondering if there is a way to do this in blender… im generally pretty good with topology and keep things to a minimum until i really have to… in one of my projects I’ve come to the stage of bracing polys and defining areas and i know this would help me immensely…

Something I’d like to know as well. I thought bmesh was the answer to this, but unfortunately I can’t seem to get it to work with my workflow. As it is I still have to model in Wings3D.

X / dissolve
In the bottom of the toolbar or F6 you can then select to also dissolve any associated vertices
