Render both material color AND wireframe in same material?

Hai!
I got this cube. Now it got a blue color on it, but I want to
render dark grey wireframe around it. So I just copied the cube, made a the copy
a little bigger and put wireframe mode on the copys material.

This does not workout anymore. I got a mesurement tape, and the tape can be scaled so that it looks like you pull out more tape.
But with this scaling I got less control of the wireframe…

So Anyways, I need to render gray edges and blue color at one single object… Havnt found out how to do that on google, so I came here…

Help?

What about making a small portion of the tape, then add an array modifier and have the number of instances fit a curve? That way if you increase the length of the curve you end up with more vertices, as opposed stretching the vertices out. Then make a linked duplicate of that and set it to wireframe like you were before.

Something to try anyway.

That is an intresting solution. I will experiment with that later
as I think I could achive other cool effects with it
Tho as for now I really need the material fixed.
Mainly because unless I have two meshes, one greater than the other
and the smaller one is in parent of the big.
so selecting the correct on is somewhat enojing…

make your copy a little larger removes all faces then apply toon edge color to it!

might work

Why not hide the larger object, but still have it show up in the render? Or put it on a different layer? I suspect I’m not quite following your exact needs, so hopefully my suggestions are helpful.
