Not sure if this is possible, but I am trying to figure out how to render separate layers (for latter compositing in Photoshop), but have foreground objects obscure background objects or more accurately pieces of them, as seen from the camera… I’ll include an illustration for example.
Put model and ribbon on separate layers and use the Mask Layers

Oh, one last question. Is there any way to make that work with an imported image plane with an alpha or transparency layer? I’m using a standard Diffuse/Transparency shader node setup, and the alpha channel of the image to drive them. As is the mask is just the image plane
