I just noticed u can’t render region with the previous render in place. This is a basic feature in almost every renderer I know of. Say you rendered the whole image and u want to re-render a part of the image with the whole image still on display. The re-render is only of the part you selected with shift B. The whole image previously rendered is erased.
Is there a plan to make this possible with cycles? This is vital to compare changes in relation to other parts of a render.
@Razorblade That won’t be intuitive at all. For every re-render, u would have to save, then composite.
Best bet would be to swap with slot hotkeys to get a feel of the changes. Not the best but manageable till they get this added. Hopefully soon cause every other renderer out there, this is possible. I don’t know how they missed this.
@ MmaAxx Hey man, I recognised you from polycount. Nice to see u here. Yeah, copy render image to a new slot would be really cool.
@ ideasman42 Nice to know ppl have been asking for it. Does this mean this is being worked on currently or is being considered for the a future release?
Hey there, I know this is quite an old topic but I would like to know if there has been some progress in this area? I am aware of workarounds ( like rendering original + region separately and then combine them in postpro software) but those are too clunky and long handed. This is something i miss dearly.
hi,
Unfortunately, nothing has been done about it. They are really busy with 2.8 at the moment. Whether they are going to add it in 2.8 is yet to be seen.
