Render time displacement development

Does anyone know if this feature is still being developed? I think it was being developed, what 6 or 7 years ago and it’s still hidden away under experimental feature set all this time later.

Has development been abandoned and if so what’s the plan for experimental features that are never finished off? I’d hate to lose what we have currently so I hope it doesn’t disappear at some point.

What’s preventing a development focus in finishing off this feature and getting it out?
