Render world background image

Hi,

I use Blender 2.55.
Is there any possibility to render an image (or texture) like sky, stars, etc. as world background?
I don’t want to use the world’s stars I want to use my own background.

Thanks!

Sure. Applying a texture (either procedural or an image) is quite possible and very easy. Here is a mini tutorial.

  1. Click the world button. You have to click the appropriate button to apply a texture correctly. For materials you click the material button first. Similar for the world.
  2. Then click the texture button. On clicking the texture button now you will be applying your textures to the world background.
  3. Then you can apply any texture you want as a world background.

All you need to do now is play with the texture settings to get the effect you want.

Here is a really quick five minute picture that I made to demonstrate this. All Blender 2.56. The textures are all procedural and that is not the world’s star function.

Well hope that was helpful and that you get what you want done.
Have a good day,
An’W

EDIT: My example picture is compressed like crazy, sorry about that. Do not know how to avoid that. I can upload the .blend if you want it. It is not much but if you want to look through it just ask and I will put it up for anyone who wants it.

Hi A’nW,

sounds good, I will give it a try!

Thanks a lot!

Hi A’nW,

I did the steps you mentioned, but no texture is showing in the background.
Do I miss something?
Is it possible to use more than one texture for the worlds background?

Thanks for further help!

Do I miss something?

active -> texture\influence\horizon

where do you finf this activa Texture thing?

and is this only for procedural texture or images also!

thanks

look in the second image under the second ellipse!
there is written “blend” and thereafter “hori”

and is this only for procedural texture or images also!
is this for tex procedural or tex image

Hi mr. burns,

Yes, it is as afranx said and I showed in my second picture. If you are using the default world settings then the default world texture influence does not let it show up on the background. You must change the texture influence to the correct settings. Here is an example image.

Well hope this clears things up.

how are these pictures made with text ?
which looks very nicely done

is the text added above picture here done with a free soft or paint may be ?

ok here is my test with a marble texture in background

nice example

but this is not like doing env or sky mapping like we had in 2.49!

Thanks

Hi, RickyBlender,

but this is not like doing env or sky mapping like we had in 2.49!

I may not understand what you mean so forgive me if I am telling you something you already know. I checked in Blender 2.49b and all the world sky and texture settings seem to be there in 2.56b. You can also easily do environment lighting. Here is an image.

Speaking of images.

I do them with the GIMP paint program.
It is really easy to make the “tutorial” images if you have a basic knowledge of GIMP.

If you think it would be beneficial for people I could do a short tutorial on how to make them.

always wanted to know how to make theses nice documented picture but never really was able too! LOL

yes i would appreciate to learn more about it and how to know more GIMP which i did not use a lot before!

if possible make it so that we can download a short video i will definitively need to replay a few times i guess untill i learn it well!

About ang & Sky map

there is a thread on Ang and sky map with many of theses map
but no example on how to use theses in 2.5

may be could can add one sample file for each of theses in this thread
http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=118692&highlight=angular

this would complete this thread very well for 2.5
and i’ll take a copy as example for 2.5

and may be ask to have this added as a stiky
i’m certain other people wold be interested to learn this too!

happy and Tanks again man very interesting to know more in 2.5

Sorry about the delay.

A video tutorial, thats a good idea. I will get one made soon for everyone. I do not know how to let it be downloaded though; I would have to put it on YouTube.

That is plenty possible, and also another good idea. The thread you gave does not seem to really apply though; it is pretty old too. I will see if I can get a demo .blend up soon. I will probably just put one up demonstrating an angular map as a sky texture and environment light since that is generally what they are used for.

sorry did not check the therad

it is this one here

http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24038

it’s old but has a lot of ang and sky maps in it !

happy 2.5

Posted an example file for each type of sky texture in 2.56. They are on page 11 of this thread: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24038. Hope they help some people. Also made a quick video tutorial on how I use GIMP to make my explanation images. It can be downloaded also.
Heres the link: http://www.vimeo.com/18727248
Do you think I should open a thread with it or something?

not certain where this can be put may be in WIP or may be
open a thread to ask the question!

i’ll look at it sometimes before tomorrow!

happy .35

first problem i got cause i’m a total newbie with GIMP

sorry to ask but how do bring up the 2 panels inside Gimp and waht are their names ?

Note i will try this year to use Gimp a lot more cause it is a very good imag editor with lot’s of feature much better then using paint to make documentation!LOL

Thanks

Well, the toolbox which is on the left in my video should always come up automatically. If neither one are there you can find all the panels in the “Windows” menu in the image window. The ones I have up by default are the “Layers”, “Channels”, and “Undo History” panels.

Do you know if in Gimp there is i think it is called frame addon

like you want to add around the sheet or the edges some small drawings

like in old Parchemin paper in Middle ages

to give a better look!

Thanks

anybody has anidea about these frame filter for images in gimp?

Thanks happy 2.5
