rendered at wrong frame rate

I made a short animation of 225 frames to play at 25 frames per second. I rendered it as avi codec Microsoft 1. It should play for five seconds, but it plays for 9 seconds and very fast movement. The frame counter in the preview window says it’s still 225 frames. I double checked all the timeline and animation buttons. I’m using one cyclic IPO on one object and a particle emitter. Thats all. Any ideas?

ALWAYS RENDER AS STILLS IN A DIRECTORY! Then use a program that can import an image squence to create the movie in another step. That tends to avoid these issues.

uh, 225 frames / 25 frames per second is about 9 seconds…225 frames / 5 seconds is like 45 frames per second.

a simple math error,:o. I feel dumb now. but I like the idea of rendering to stills.

And what program can import an image sequence into a movie?

wrote this up today. see http://mediawiki.blender.org/index.php/Manual/Using_VSE#Add_Movie_and_Image_.28Stills_or_Sequences.29
If you have too many frames because you rendered at the wrong rate, just use the speed control http://mediawiki.blender.org/index.php/Manual/VSE_Examples#Using_Speed_for_a_Slow-Motion_Effect to slow it down or speed it up.
