rendered out an image to my desktop

…where the heck is it?
I know this sounds very basic, but I chose the output as my desktop. Rendered the image in Blender. looked at my desktop…and…nothing.

what gives? I know none of you are working on my system, but I am thinking of the process wrong? I can export a png sequence no problem.

but image…no deal. I dont get it. No errors…just nothing. Does rendering an image just preview it in blender and not actually create a file???

In the render settings the Output location box is for rendered animations (as per its tooltip). If you render a still image you then need to save that image to your desktop either from the Image menu entry of the render window or by pressing F3. The file bowser window will then open and you can browse to where you want to save the image.
