My thoughts exactly. 40 hours for something you can render in 20 minutes with other renderers?! Sheesh! Although, it seems WinOSI is not meant to be used for 3D artwork rendering, but more for rendering very photorealistic scenes…but still very slow.
That link was shown to give an idea of renderer’s ability.
WinOSI is ment as a test of a new ideaology of rendering lightwaves. Very slow, yes but give it 5 days to render it its looks damn good and real. Its not meant for production, just a test of algorithm.
Your questions are sooo open that it will take many lines to answer. Obivously Pro Renders Have support and intergration into major 3D applications. While free ones are “take with what you have and work with it”
I cant tell you which one is better, its all about what you want down and how long your willing to wait.
WinOSI is meant to be extremely realistic and physically accurate, but at the expense of speed. Personally, I think that page is a perfect example of what it’s really good for: generating reference images.
