Hey guys, I just came across renderfarm.fi… supposedly a free renderfarm service? Can anyone tell me how it works and what is required to use it?
Hey Petya. Sorry for not answering you before. We are indeed a free renderfarm - now and always.
The concept is very simple. We base our rendering on volunteer computing and can thus offer a free service for all Blender users.
Now what’s cool is that our “uploader” script (now GPL licensed) has been a part of the Blender add-ons since the August release of Blender 2.53. The uploader does its best to help you in making sure that everything is in order for the render to succeed on the renderfarm.
All we ask is that if you use the farm, you attach your own computer(s) to the farm in order to help others to achieve faster renders. It’s that simple. Basically the concept boils down to artists helping artists and volunteers helping artists. No strings attached - all for free.
Naturally there are limitations (you can read about these from FAQ page on the site) and we are still quite not up to the level some “commercial” renderfarms can do, but personally I believe this is just a matter of time. The more people join, the more convinced I become of this fact.
