Rendering an upper view image - locating camera on top of the model

Hello
I’m new 2 blender and all 3d graphic modeling.
I’ve downloaded a free model of airplane and I want to create an upper view image that I’d be able to use as a 2d image.
How can I locate the camera to be exactly on top of the aircraft and to include all the models in a way that I’d be able to render it to png image? There must be someway simple to do this. I’ve been working on this for 2 days now  and I’d really appreciate step by step directions.
Thanks

if you want to upload an image in top viewport
then just bottom header menu view and select background then load up the image

for the caemra add an empty then select camera then Shift select the empty and Ctrl-T and add constraint

then place the empty above the location in top view and front view and then do the same with the camera

for thse intro to blender you should read more about blender introd tut at

hope it helps

Hi RickyBlender,

I just want to create a top orthographic view of the model and then to render it to png image.
Could you please explain all that in a step by step list?
I’m sorry but I’m a real newbie here and have no idea what is bottom header menu… not to mention all the rest
Thank you

you need to set the camera just above your model in top view and front view

then go to F9 and set camera to ortho
and adjust the size so that the model fit in the camera view

note :
ounce in ortho mode it does not matter at what Z value you set the camera
it’s the size in F9 that determines the size of view for camera

hope it helps
