Rendering animation.

I want to know which one i shall use Avi jpeg takes less space but avi raw takes more is there any difference and which one are you rendering with?

AVi raw is higher quality(as its uncompressed) i just render to that normally, but if you want another option, render to quicktime, and choose the sorensen 3 codec, with quality all the way up. Nice renders, small size.

Thanks for advicing me!

I always render the individual frames (usually to TARGA with RGBA for compositing later) to a folder and then import the image sequence. Reason being, if blender crashes, you don’t loose all those hours. also you can start/stop, but I’m also using Xgrid to do network rendering which doesn’t support movies too.

yeah nice one Unimatrix never thought of that - that could have saved me hours if i’d done that sooner.

and you MUST render to EXR format if you are going to later use Z (depth) info, for example for DOF or blur background processing. No other formats, image or avi or QT store that info. see wiki on image input node for more info.

indeed, RogerWickes is completely right. EXR is the way togo, it is the format of the future in the blender world. If you haven’t heard of it, research the heck out of it, because it’s benefits are incredible, as I am only just now beginning to learn.
