yer its too dark, if you can, try not to rely on 1 light source. at the moment it looks like you have one light coming through the door…try placing some where windows or opening would appear…also wooden planes on floor look too chunky…
Cycles simply cannot handle light in the way you are expecting it to.
To reduce the grain, you have two options: render a kabillion samples or introduce some light inside the room. When working on interiors like this, I tend to remove a wall or parts of the ceiling, and use a plain white colour for the environment, and a sunlamp and/or area lamps to get the effect I want.
For example, in the image below I wanted a window on the far left hand side. Instead of actually creating a window and introducing a whole new source of graininess, I added a small amount of woodwork where one would expect a window to go, and placed an area lamp to the immediate left off-camera.
@peter18… yes… I agree the planks look too… rough… like you could get splinters in your toes lol… i’.ll fix that… and yes… your comment combined with that of @danilius would seem to indicate that I’m relying too heavily on a single light source
@danilius… thank you for the feeback… I’ll try to cheat more lol…
The irony of this all is that the lighting in this scene IS actually what it looks like in real life… except maybe for the shadows by the door… I’ll have to make that a bit sharper for the sunlight
