Rendering without grey

I am having trouble I want to render some 3d text. I want to export it to use in paintshop pro, but I have no way of getting the finished text to render without the grey backround. It is such a hassle to try remove it and if I do the result is never up to standard. Does anyone know how to render without having the grey backround just the rendered object? or any other alternative way?

Thanks

Turn on alpha channel in the output image. If you are using Cycles, you also need to turn on “transparent” in the film panel. For LuxRender, there’s a similar switch in the camera panel (“enable alpha channel”). Don’t know any steps for other renderers off the top of my head.

Where is the alpha channel I clicked on the render settings went to output and there is no option for alpha channel. I’m using blender render.

Set output to RGBA and with a format that can use alpha like .png

Thanks I did that now but when I save my image the grey is still there and I tried to use the alpha in the node editor aswel but it just turns out black.
