There are a few ways, do you run Firefox and Greasemonkey? If you do there’s a vBul-specific script affectionately known as “super ignore”…
Once you see how it works, you’ll understand how easy to modify… you can block threads from ever showing up, based on keywords even… so even future threads and usernames you don’t want to see can be “pre-blocked”.

It’s not a dig at AndyD, it’s a potential sanity saver. I personally would like it to avoid certain threads that devolve into the ‘primate discovers weapons’ scene in “2001: A Space Odyssey”.

After reading another post whingeing about Firefox, I finally broke down and got it 2 days ago. That means I hardly know how to use it, sadly. I do know I like it a lot and consider it far superior to the usual suspect. I suppose I should seek out this Greasemonkey.
I would not want to ignore users, per se, just particular threads. I know, go look. But thanks for the heads up.

I just don’t understand the subscribe feature. It seems that by default, every thread you post in is subscribed? But then, I don’t use these sorts of forum features, I just troll through the indices looking at topics. The new icon showing threads in which I’ve already posted is enough for me to decide if I need to look in there again or not and if I’m looking for something specific and can’t remember where it was, I’ll just go to my posting history and find it here.

I take it you don’t get email notifications when somebody has answered your questions or responded to your comments.
For those of us who do, the subscribe feature sends us an email the first time the threads we’re subscribed to have been posted to since our last visit. At the bottom of these notification emails there is usually something like this written:
Unsubscription information:
To unsubscribe from this thread, please visit this page:
http://blenderartists.org/forum/subscription.php?do=usub&t=71237
To unsubscribe from ALL threads, please visit this page:
http://blenderartists.org/forum/subscription.php?do=viewsubscription&folderid=all
And when I’m sick of hearing about X thread, I click on the link and unsubscribe. Voila.
If you’re not getting email notifications, I wouldn’t worry about any of it. And if you decide to start getting email notifications, you can click on that bottom link and start fresh anyway.

Besides, it could be valid, he was asking for a way to do it from vBulletin itself (which it can’t, ignore user barely works much less anything more elaborate.)
PD, if you’re a web guy I’m sure you can figure out Greasemonkey, it basically lets you locally proxy content and run your own DHTML on it. So you can do stuff like modify how a vBul forum is (or more importantly, is not) displayed. It’s at http://greasemonkey.mozdev.org/ whenever you’re ready.
Thanks HT, but I am not going to claim to be a web guy. I suppose I can put it on my list of things to learn, growing as quickly as my oft ignored things to do list. 
I don’t know WTF you guys are talking about, but if another forum member isn’t acting up to the rules, please contact an admin or mod. Don’t start a thread for a feature request that already has a feature (click the username of the user you want to ignore in a thread and click “ignore user” in their profile)
If you just “can’t stand” another forum member, and they piss you off (with no particular reason), get over it. That’s life, there’s people out there that will piss you off and no one else. To consider them “enemies” is just ridiculous.
Look around in your profile, there’s an option to turn off automatic thread subscription. That way you only subscribe to threads that you click “subscibe to thread” under the thread tools menu at the top of the thread.
