Reset 3D Cursor disables viewport controls

Hello!

I am having an issue with 2.61. Inevitably I will accidentally move the 3D cursor so I reset it with SHIFT-C. However, after I do this my view shoots far from my model and all viewport controls cease to function or function very poorly or very strangely. It appears the point at which the view centers upon has been reset elsewhere?

I’m using 2.61 32bit in Win7.

Thanks for any advice! I’m sure it’s something obvious I’m just missing. I haven’t worked in Blender since before 2.5 so I’d forgotten so much… ;_;

EDIT2: Oops. Not a “fix”. Lock to Cursor disallows panning.
EDIT1: Current “fix” is checking Lock to Cursor in the View menu. Is this correct?

there might be a stray object far away from the 0,0,0 coordinates…

Unfortunately, it occurs with a brand new file. I can replicate it with the default cube.

I’ve fully uninstalled and reinstalled Blender 3 times and it still happens. I figure it must be me doing something wrong but I can’t figure out what.

Looking further into this, specifically at information located here under “More Ways to Position the Cursor” it seems that SHIFT+C is working as intended.

From the wiki:
Press Shift + C to reset the cursor to the origin.

  • Note that this also changes the view location, meaning that when you zoom in, you won’t zoom in to the scene origin.

So I guess it was, indeed, my bad but I swear I used to use SHIFT+C all the time rather than SHIFT+S and selecting from a dropdown. Still confused, but it seems I have a reason for my issue and a solution.

the only thing I can say for sure about un-installing and re-installing is run it from the zip file…
there might be something left behind from the un-installation…
I don’t know for sure but running from a zip might resolve the problem…
for my default…in the outliner there is only be a few items…
I have RenderLayers, World, Camera, Cube, and Lamp…
there might be a stray object…
other than that I wouldn’t know…
