I’m not satisfied with the result of this picture.

I need hints on light, textures and maybe some more objects to be added or modified…

Be cruel…

Add some plants inside, and maybe a lamp or something???

Well you may not be happy Jazzroy, but I think this has an excellent mood going on.

What 'bout maybe a bottle of wine on the table next to the fruit? Add a couple of glasses, go with red wine so you can see it.

Then replace that front-door mat thing on the couch by draping some sexy lingerie in it’s place.

It’s probably just my imagination, ‘feel’ and impression of this picture, but I really think it could be quite romantic and sensual.

Looking good sofar. I assume the foliage ouside the window is an image texture and not 3d models?

The textures look really nice but the lighting needs work. Not sure exactly where, but it doesn’t look realistic right now. Mabye because there is a lot of ambient light in the room and not apparent light sources other than the window. The shadows seem to be lacking something as well.

That’s all I can think of now. I think this render has a lot of potential. Hope to see an update soon.

Agree with that the mat thing looks a bit awkward as is

Also, It looks light outside, like a shiny day… so there should probably be more light coming from the window, resulting in lighter squares on the couch/bed/floor from the light thrrough the individual window panes.

Another thought, during day with a lot of sunlight coming in from the windows, you (at least I?!) don’t use lights inside… So move most lights outside
I think it could be nice though to put some behind a frame elsewhere, in order to simulate a window outside the picture.

Enough barking %| You’re on the right way!

thanx for all the replies!

@Yoshi_Rider: Some plants? the reference picture ahs one on the left, it colud be good…

@PolygoneUK: a glass of wine could be a good idea! Mumble… a front-door carpet… that wasn’t waht I wanted it to look like, maybe I’ll change it.

@.:Tr@ceR:. : obviously outside there’s a background. Such “real” trees should deserve more attention if they were 3D!
YOu think the lighting needs more contrast?

@hiower: the light is an experiment, I created a set with a almost uniform light in blender, then I re-rendered the scene with indigo with just sky and sun, then mixed in Gimp. I’ll try to make it better.
I don’t understand what you mean here: "I think it could be nice though to put some behind a frame elsewhere, in order to simulate a window outside the picture. " - what is a window outside the picture? :o

Oh, i just get the feeling that there might be more windows in the room, not just the ones shown in your picture. So if there are more of them, then there should also be light shining through them, affecting the lightning in the scene

and here’s an image of about what i had in mind about “more light through windows”

Oh, I think it’s very nice, and very close. Just a couple of details “don’t quite ring true.”

(1) The beige pillow on top has too much detail. It would not be quite so sharp.

(2) Likewise, the throw-rug is a little too “crunchy.”

Generally, please don’t make radical changes to this picture. Don’t diddle with the light … imho you’ve got it right now. Just tiny tweaks. It’s a very satisfying and creative picture.

I don’t even object to little things, like a somewhat under-exposed table on the (viewer’s) left side next to the window, because it’s quite plausible that the lighting really would be like that. So, go easy. It would be very easy to … :Z it up…

this is the reference picture.

I don’t want it to be an exact reproduction, but just a very close ispiration…

I did not look at the pictures long, but
your rendered scene is better than the photo,
that is my first impression.

The photo has areas where its washed out,
Your render does not to name one.

Second attempt…

I added two wine glasses and a decanter, maybe a plant is still required somewhere
changed the light a bit and added no more pshop mix with indigo render, this is blender pure render.

PS
forgot to place the background…

Your picture seems a little cold. The reference picture seems warm and kind because it has a harsh white light outside and soft orange/red lights inside.

You should make the outside seem brighter, almost completely burnt out (as in the reference pic). This should give a nice contrast to the inside.

The modelling is good, though I feel the wine glasses make the table look a little cluttered and seem out of place considering the setting.

So, its basically the contrast, in two ways. In your picture, the darkest colour is a lightish grey and the lightest isnt quite pure white. In the reference, it goes from burnt out white to almost completely black. The other contrast is a blue/white and orange one.

Perhaps add some candles?

Ian

another light attempt…

Although your picture seems more natural, the reference picture is has a great atmosphere. Really push the lighting, get some big contrasts in there. Also try post-pro-ing it.

The japanese style of the room makes me (as a go player) wonder if you could add a goban next to the bed. It might give some authentic japanese mood to the overal picture

Here is a couple of links to a reference picture for nice and typical gobans.

Go is an ancient game widely played in Japan, China and Korea (excellent game).

Best Regards,

another update.

changed the light, added two plants, removed the “carpet” on te bed.

aabout the goban set, it’s a nice idea, but i don’t know where to put it without changing the camera point of view.
maybe i’ll add a chessboard on the bed

I think the lights would fit better if they were a standing lamp, not a hanging one. Since we can’t see the ceiling, it looks as if they’re floating… Just odd. The rest of the scene is very nice. The fabrics, wall textures, and plants look especially awesome. Though I’m not sure on the shape of that wine container.

I think a notepad or artist’s drawing pad would look nice on the bed. Just have a sketch or a journal or something, as if someone had left it there after lying in the bed writing/drawing.
