I just installed 2.77 and on first use hit the button to retain my previous settings. Blender froze and I had to close down. On re-opening, the option to retain settings wasn’t there and the default loaded. I uninstalled and re-installed a couple of times, but it seems you only get one bite at that apple:)
Is there any way I can do a clean install that will give me that option back?
Thanks for the response…I’ve only in the last couple of days upgraded to Win10, so don’t know my way around it all that well yet. Can’t find C:/Documents and Settings, let alone the rest - would have found it easily under Win7.
Is there possibly somewhere else it would be found under Win10, and must I first uninstall, then delete that config file, then reinstall?
What I started doing is copying my old version to a new folder before upgrading. That way, if I do need to go back, I can. If you’ve done that, then copying over the folders will get some of the stuff back like the options in the Add Ons list if you have any custom add ons. As far as hanging, I know I did my upgrade recently and it appeared to hang, but I left it alone for a while, and it did eventually free up and with (almost) all the old options in place.
Thanks for the advice - I’ll bear it in mind for the next upgrade:)
I finally traced the config file - very different path names to what is shown in the manual, but I guess that is for Win7. Deleted all reference to 2.76, did a system restore, registry clean-up and a fresh install of 2.77. Got the option to copy settings and let it run for a looong time.
All is well, all my settings restored and the world is once again a happy place:)
Just wondering why keeping settings isn’t the default option - also be nice it the copying settings had a progress bar.
Anyway, I’m very grateful that such a great application is supported to the extent it is and given out for free - makes it easier to deal with the small pinpricks it sends my way now and again.
