Rethinking Auguste Rodin

I was getting an inspiration from Auguste Rodin for this test bar-relief. This is my first post here so comments are welcome.

welcome  nice first post. i like it. is it sculpted with dynatopo on a plane?

I wish I knew what dynatopo is… No, this relief is done from a “full size” model. Why would I do a relief from a full-size model which I created? Well, there are many reasons why. The main reason was that my model was so bad that I had to expose it only from a certain angle to fetch some outcome.

Don’t even ask me how I ‘ve reached a relief from a 3d model. I would never ever repeat those manipulations. Just because I didn’t record them.

And thank you, Doris, for your inspiring comment

I am a bit disappointed. It looks like people think I did a simple photo displacement. I didn’t, it was 3D model smashed on a surface (SmashTheMesh technology of my3dscanner). Well, if the result is not intimidating, let’s me drop it.

I apologize for bad rendering. It is a model for 3D printing, so topology and renderings do not really matter.

hmm, it does remind me of rodin’s work!.. but I think it deserves a little better render. I would love to see the 3D printed outcome though. Cool overall.

this is cool. Keep up the good work. Tell us at least the version you used and maybe a little about how you did it?

I just had to make a model from photos and smashthemesh. I don’t know how I did it to tell you the truth.

When you say full 3d model do you mean a cg sculpt or a clay sculpt that you scanned with a 3d scanner?

Could you post some pictures of the original sculpt so we can see how the detail carried over?

I meant a cg sculpt if it is a right definition for you. Now I am not sure what you meant by original sculpt, but sure, here is a fragment of my reference photos:

I keep working on something usefull for 3D printing:
A ring

Or maybe something like this:
