Retopology trouble

I’m having some trouble with the topology for this character. I’ve gotten a fair amount done, but now I’m having trouble with getting making good quads for these legs. I’m also wondering how should I go with the buttocks on this character.

some additional angles

To show this as “see-through” might be not the best idea to present your problem… so there are dozen of examples on the net and you “simply” have to lock at some to recognize some bad ones and find some nice ones, because everbody is publishing everything.

You might also search for some paid base mesh examples and study their preview images… maybe even buy one to study it even more. They got very cheap over the last years because every fired artist wants to sell something to get a living.

If the number of Vertex is even, fill it with grid grid fill.
If you have any particular purpose regarding this configuration, please explain it

Start by remeshing the leg separately from the body, just making sure they have the same number of edges as the body. Maybe start with an edge loop that surrounds the foot, then extrude it upward until you can bridge it with the body.

If you try to extrude the leg’s topology from the body, you will make the job harder for yourself. Better to do the important parts first and then fill the spaces between them.

i got the legs but I’m noticing these weird lines in the mesh that i can’t seem to get rid of. I don’t know if they’re normal or if I screwed something up in this area.

I can’t seem to interact with them either.

but when i hit the On Cage icon in the shrinkwrap modifier, it’s gone?

actually i think i got it.

The lines are probably happening because of the way the shrinkwrap modifier is set to display in edit mode. It’s showing both the wrapped and non-wrapped positions. If you check the 4th little button on the modifier, it should be fixed, but with the added risk that you won’t know where the polygon actually is when it’s not shrinkwrapped.
