Retro-future refers to how those in the past may have envisioned the future. This is a pic of a large 1940 (approx) city with a futuristic train just leaving on a coast to coast journey.
Other than the complete absence of a smokestack, this train reminds me very much of the “streamlined” steam locomotives of yesteryear, near the end of the steam age. Likewise some of the cars. I’ve seen only pictures, but they were a sight to behold!
Thanks. It’s actually electric, so no smokestack. The background is a pic of 1940’s (ish) New York. This is how someone back then might have thought trains of the future would look. Hence Retro Futurism. Glad you like it.
Super cool ! Well done !
It’s greatly integrated I wasn’t sure the background was CG or not and started to faint when looking at those cars and all those details.
Thanks. It was a fun little project.
thats lovely !! in my head i am imagining it more with some aging and damaged bits, unless its going like digital retro futuristic ![]()
The train is brand new. Just off the production line. Pride of the fleet and all that. Glad you like it.
I’m glad to know that someone else thinks that “modern” diesel [freight …] engines are “butt-ugly!”
(Fortunately, USA’s “Amtrak” still has a little bit of class … Their locomotives and passenger cars are not too bad …)
But of course, those original designers were when “passenger automobiles” still had, and were very proud to have, “chrome!”
Anyhow: “It’s a really great model.”
Thanks. Some day I might model one of the old iron horse steam trains. They sure had a lot of detail but also a lot of character.
I featured you on BlenderNation, have a great weekend!
Thank you very much. You have a great weekend as well.
Thank you. I was not thinking of Metropolis at the time I did the train but I am familiar with the movie. Maybe a Metropolis themed pic would be a good project for me in the future. (See what I did there?)
You’re right. I did not know about the 1940s Merc until after I had completed my train pic but definitely similar. Glad you like it.
I think you must have subconciously tapped into your inner Fritz Lang. If you haven’t seen this movie for a while, take another look. Remarkable imagery, from a movie that turns 100 next year!
I will. Some of the old movies still have amazing stories.
Very cool retro art !
Thanks. I am thinking of doing a series of retro-future projects. Glad you like it.
You’re on the featured row! ![]()
