Reverse Smoke Animations

Is there a way to play baked smoke simulations in reverse? I’ve currently got a text layer dissolving to smoke, but would like the smoke sim to play in reverse so it starts as smoke and morphs to the text layer (with additional animation on the text layer to use it as a reveal).

I’ve tried creating an Automator workflow in OSX to run on the point cache to rename the .bphys files in reverse order, but to no avail.

why not to use video editor and make it play backwards?

Can you expand on that? I have the sim baked, but not sure where to access it in the video sequence editor. The simulation is also part of a larger composition with everything else needed to move in forward motion, so I can’t apply a reverse to the entire composition.
