Review and feedback for my dog gallop cycle

Hello, I would like to get feedback for my animation of dog gallop. What is good, what could be better. It’s meant to be for mobile and not seen from the very close, so I think I could manage very good with this. But I see few poppings and can’t find out which bone is causing it. Rig is not the best but I think I managed ok, my focus is to achieve believeable movement, especially with big areas : spine and legs, other smaller details are there, but I don’t want them to draw attention from main animation. Thanks!

Yup, the front shoulder popping is an issue, but much of the overall movement is as well.

Shows a great slow motion of exactly what you are trying to do.

Yeah, motion of shoulder is very ugly. However I am not sure which bone to move to smooth it

Yeah, that’s just something you have to select each control and step back and forth in the timeline/dope sheet till you can nail down which it is.

Without the file in front of you and playing with it, just not something that is easy to tell.

Personally, at first sight, I think it’s pretty convincing.

I reckon the shoulder popping issue is a rigging/skinning problem rather, didn’t spot it right away.

Regarding the reference shared by @thetony20, this clearly shows a dog in full sprint, maximum speed, so I’m not sure it’s 100% applicable here.

Downloaded and single-stepped the clip, the only other (not very noticeable) “pops” I can spot happen when while elbows move from 100% stretch to bent position (first at frame #5-#6), typical IK issue. I assume the IK chain is fully stretched at frame #5, before the angle is decreasing again? Can you rig/animate so it doesn’t need to reach full 180° angle here? That would avoid the “pop” .

Generally, I like the animation!

Thanks! If you have time and will I can send you file. I can’t really public show it since it’s project file, but I could maybe crop front legs where problem occurs. If not, nevermind I am thankful for tip and help anyway  It could be problem with rig, since I did it with rigify and adjusted a bit weight painting, and it’s most exhausting process so maybe I didn’t do something well. Yeah I could try not to strech it full 180 angle, however, leg IK, clavicle bone, and feet roll are part of that specific move, so fixing one doesn’t work I assume I need to fix them all on same frames.
I did it with help of Sophoria Academy course of dog run gallop tutorial, however it’s done in Maya and with other rig so I couldn’t exactly copy it.

If you like and want to share feel free to send it, no problem.

Rigify should work nicely for these kinds of rigs.

PS:
I think you have done a great job capturing the overall limb movement, including all the subtleties, that amazing paw flick dogs/wolves use to “push” the ground away …
