Revisiting my first serious fanart I made this time one year ago

Fanart of the 3rd Pokemon Movie (Spell of the Unown), which featured ancient mystic scrabble tiles with each Unown letter etched on them. Original reference will be provided in the description.

Using a spritesheet and Blender Nodes, each tile can procedurally generate a random letter. With Geometry Nodes I created an array of them and displaced their Z-Position.

Unfortunately the original file is lost due to hard drive corruption, but I still really want to look back at this. I am really proud with what I achieved with this (especially with the random letter generation and compositor nodes) but at the same time I feel like there is lots of room for improvement. I couldn’t figure out how to procedurally add damage to the tiles (chipped off pieces and stains), and the tiles don’t really look that accurate to source material.

Anyways, hope you saw the third Pokemon movie and know what this fanart was about. It was my personal favorite Pokemon movie.

How the original tiles looked:

If you want to take a stab at making your own tiles, here is the sprite sheet I used. Note that you will have to take the extra M into account.

You can get an Unown font on Dafont:
