Would anybody be bothered on this forum If I was to take tutorials from this site and rewrite them, giving reference to the first writer of the tutorial?
so for example, somebody asks how to make a barrel and somebody posts a description of how to do it, And so I rewrite the description and add a few pictures, the blend and so on, and possibly a screen capture video of how its done.
Will anybody else be willing to help me?
Tutorials so far here; http://blendercommunity.deviantart.com/
Many people have deviant Id’s here and as there servers hardly crash we can keep the tutorials here and use it as a central base unless someone else is willing to host all the tutorials…
I agree to what you are trying to do and will like to help. Currently I have tons of tutorials dumped on my hard drive and it is always so difficult to find what I’m looking for – currently it is a big mess, and everyone’s format is different and there is no common standard.
If we are to redo the tutorials we must decide on a standard format such as html,PDF or chm (your image on deviant art is difficult to follow). I also think that if we start redoing tutorials it should be done in such a way that it can later easily be reformatted or bundled in such a way that a proper manual can be made and it is printer friendly. Who knows even the start distributing it with new blender releases?
Instead of running to a new domain like deviant art shouldn’t we rather start uploading to mediawiki.blender.org or something similar?
I like the idea of compiling tutorials on the wiki. It’s shaping up to be a great resource with all of the recent activity there, and adding tutorials will make it even better.
That said, you should make sure to get permission directly from the author of each tutorial before putting it on the wiki.
The wiki is the central resource of all Blender knowledge. The main reason why I would prefer wiki is because it is easy to update the tutorials to reflect the situation in the current version of Blender.
whereas the wiki is one of the best places to post, posting on deviantart will also attract other users.
The images that I placed for the video tutorials were because I had not time on my hands to create a pic saying eg) hand creation tutorial.
Anyway, how reliable are the wiki servers?
I suppose i am just wondering what would be the responce if I scoured the forum, made a tutorial of somebody elses work and then posted with reference to the author. Im just wondering If anybody would actually care…
