Rigging a custom summon unit in Dota 2

Trying to figure out how to rig a custom summon unit I made for dota 2. Should I try to modify the exhisting armature you are given or make my own. ( I have tried using the exhisting armature, and moving the bones to fit my own summon, but when importing my mesh is horribly distorted and I am totally confused on how to proceed.) Any help is greatly appreciated!

It’s probably caused by un-applied rotations, scales and locations on your armature and/or the mesh. You need to post the blend file to paeteall.org then post the link here.
