Rigging a Flat Character(Parappa) In Blender?

Hello all, I am having a slight issue while trying to model and rig Parappa the Rapper, “The Hip-Hop Hero”:eyebrowlift:

I’ve tried multiple ways of modeling Parappa for a tiny fangame that I am working on, but I just can’t quite get the model to deform the way I want it to. The model consists of flat shapes that are all joined in order to create a “stretch-like” effect when they are moved(When I move his hand in edit mode, the arm stretches accordingly). I have a simple armature on him , but whenever I move his head bone in pose mode, the distortions get weird despite me having all of the vertices of his head assigned to a vertex group with a weight of 1.0. How can I get the head to move along with the bone without this weird stretching issue?(Weight painting was no help. All of the head is red, yet the head doesn’t stay together…) To put it simply, I want moving the the head bond to be identical to me rotating the head around the center of his neck. The pictures explain my issue clearly.

You weighted the head 100% to the head bone. Did you make sure no other bones had weights on the head? In Edit Mode, select a vertex on the head. Look and Vertex Weights in the N-Panel. If you see more then one bone in the weights, you have found your problem.

A .blend would be more helpful in tracking down your problem. Use pasteall.org. It has a special spot for uploading blends.

Ahh, perfect! You were correct. Some of the arm bones had weights on the head. I suppose I shouldn’t assume “Automatic Weights” will be accurate when dealing with planes. Thanks!

yes … you may have to post a file…
if you can’t do this to Blender Artist…
then goto…

and post there and then give us the link…
