Dear Members,
I use MB add on for human character and rigify, but it’s not responding when I parented it,
What’s missing here ?
Screen shot
Thanks
My guess would be that your vertex groups don’t have the correct names. If your vertex weights are in good shape then all you really need to do is rename them to what Rigify requires.
“Parenting” is such a misleading term in that context, I wish the Blender world could drop it and name things properly, that would be tremendously helpful when it comes to questions like your’s, and a lot of beginners wouldn’t end up tangled in a messy confusion.
So, as setting up armature control for a mesh isn’t about “parenting” but about adding an armature modifier to the mesh’s modifier stack (implicitly done by that misleading CTRL-P shortcut if you make the proper selection in the context menu): is that modifier present and set up to use the rigify rig?
Should be, yes. As a first step to verify correctness please have a look at the character mesh object’s modifier stack (screw wrench icon) and locate the armature modifier.
Vertex group names in your previous screenshot seem to be okay btw., so the automatic weights step should have worked and as this requires a properly setup armature modifier to be present your issues probably are related to something else.
What happens if you select the torso controller (box shape at character’s center of gravity/lower body) and move it around?
Not moving yet…![]()
Can you upload the file?
ok…
one moment…I can not upload it here…
Could you use this link for downloading ?

Thanks
Downloaded it and having a look right now. Yes, confirmed, it doesn’t work.
The rig’s deform bones don’t seem to match the model, but that’s a minor issue, should cause bad deformation but at least some deformation should happen. Tried to rebind with automatic weights, but that failed even after deleting all vertex groups. Tried with another rig (simple human meta rig) -> fails again
Which reminds me, I’m not sure I ever used automatic weights in 2.8 so far, can’t imagine the feature is broken though, there must be another explanation. Skinning the default cube using default armature does work though, so it is working.
Looking at object transforms, there is a 0,-0,0 rotation, applied it. Still does not work. Recomputed mesh normals, deleted all vertex groups again, rebind to metarig -> works.
So, let’s see whether it will work with that rigify armature now …
ok, thanks for that, I’m still learning on rigging…so it looks complex for me…
It’s moving, I use ‘G’ grab when selecting the torso…
Yes, well, the simple solution then.
The armature I’m seeing here is rather messed up, but I expect that’s due to version differences then. Out of curiosity, which Blender version do you use (should have asked that in the first place)?
I took the shot
HumanAnimationV1.mkv (1.7 MB)
thanks for helping…
Welcome. Out of curiosity: which Blender version do you use? I expect we had some version difference issues here …
It’s Blender v 2.80.75, is there any add-ons to give this “animated man” a clothes ?
or it’s available already on MB add-ons ?
