Rigging Lattices with Armatures and Other lattices

Need a little help guys, something simple but cumbersome. I am rigging a box, Everything works as expected but I am getting double transforms on the lid. I believe this is because I am modifying the lid to conform to the lattice of the body. Any Ideas on how to get this working correctly? I have tried everything.

how about this…use a single armature, and give the lid and the box each a mesh deform modifier, ( which is better than a lattice imo, for this type of thing… ) the control meshes of which are parented to the various bones of the armature.
(edit) now that I think about it you could probably make some shape keys for the control mesh as well, for some more complex distortions

I did try the mesh deform, but still got the double transforms. Currently I am trying some key shapes on a main deformer thats not parented or deformed by anything but the scale of the bone… The problem is there seems to be no way to stop the other deformers from multiplying with the Armature.

Your idea for setting some shape keys seems to work. So I can Get rid of the Stretch bone altogether and Just add some a custom driver to the root. Nonetheless maybe some day well get better lattices. As you should be able to add a lattice deformer and then on top an Armature.
