I’ve tried assigning the armatures to the vertices. When I enter Pose mode and I try and rotate the armature, the mesh always deforms really badly. If someone has some advice or is willing to help me rig it, please let me know.
Sounds like your vertext weight groups are all messed up. You probably just selected “create from closest bone” when parenting the armature. Instead, it’s usually best to select “create groups” and then adjust the weights yourself.
What you can do is select the armature and hit ALT+P to unparent it and start over. Then select the armature hold shift and select the mesh and hit CTRL+P and select the parent to “Armature” then on the next menu select “Create groups.”
