Rigging problem

Could someone please tell me what I did wrong with the rigging? I thought I knew how…Thanks in advance.

For starters, It’s unclear what the model is to be used for

It is better if a model has a file of it’s own. Easier to address issues

There’s no definitive controls. Which makes it near unusable

The skeleton is clearly intended for a human.

There’s more than one armature. Not an issue if done well

The names of your mesh are bad. No proper material names. Axes, scale and location aren’t applied either.

Bone layers are incoherent

I’m trying to animate the duck like a human but it’s my first time rigging.

That’s the standard instructional material for rigging.

Rigging isn’t a quick process. It isn’t quick to learn either. Best of luck

I attempted the left foot but it still doesn’t work right. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwnCnOOEcD5qS2hsbVBPV1l5UDA/view?usp=sharing

I watched the videos but it’s still not working. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwnCnOOEcD5qZkhFX0tWSkFKWkk/view?usp=sharing

I looked at your file. So, what is not working? Your rig is simple and it is not parented to anything.

Can you upload just the duck and its rig? As it is the file is over 139 meg and the file is running to slow for some reason. It is hard to look at anything.

When I try parenting either the whole mesh moves or nothing moves. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwnCnOOEcD5qQl9ub3ltSlFHTzg/view?usp=sharing

You need to work on getting your meshes to a satisfactory level before rigging. To start with, you need to get into the habbit of applying all rotations, scales and locations for your individual objects. Your beak for example is off-center, rotated 180° on Z, and has varying scales on X Y and Z.

The hand needs much more in terms of topology. It shouldn’t be split up into numerous objects like that and they need to flow much better. Your fingers are effectively extended cuboids and you certainly don’t need all of those edges. On the ‘chest/shoulders’, there’s a ring of vertices (32) that is detached from the body and is serving no purpose. You should delete this. Your ‘Torso’ has an nGon at the top and bottom. This isn’t a model designed for rigging and you will seriously struggle in your attempt to do so.

If you want to get used to rigging, you should find well topologised meshes and practice on those first. Otherwise, work on your modelling skills.

Can you suggest some models?

I need help with rigging, how do I attach each mesh so that when I rotate a bone the vertices remain connected to the parent mesh?
