Rigging problems

Rigging in Blender stopped working for me. it worked in older versions by making vertex groups and parenting with bones of the same name. When I do that now, nothing happens and vertice groups dissappear (vertices are still there, but they are no longer in the right group.) What gives?

when you parent, you need to chose

to armature
then
don’t create vertex groups
[ will keep current vertex groups ]
