After a slight mishap in joining blender artists (I got no confirmation email), I am proud to present my first thread, a William Joyce style robot. For a quick description of William Joyce, he is the original mastermind behind Meet the Robinsons, Rolie Polie Olie, and a PBS show called “George Shrinks”. Seriously, do a wikipedia search on him (make sure you search “William Joyce (writer)”, because the other william joyce was a nazi).
I worked on these a while ago, and just started the project again.
Anyways, here are a few renders.
So there’s the mastermind behind the ever sucessful Rollie Pollie Ollie. I remember many a dvd at the local supermarket of RPO and I always found it amusing that some thing I can model with one hand tied behind me back is now a children’s favourite.
Nice robot by the way - hope you intend to texture it too!
welcome to BA, and nice work so far.
Gee, Thanks! I plan to use the robot from meet the robinsons as a reference. I will texture him, but i dont have any idea what to do yet. More pics to come!
I like the style - quite charming. Look forward to seeing updates.
I noticed that on pretty much all of Joyce’s robots they had a kind of tube-like arm, like in this picture.
(Just to be clear, THIS IS NOT MY MODEL)

Great source for inspiration. When my now-teenaged son was younger we really enjoyed the Joyce books. Very cool, and good luck with this! You’re off to a great start.
Thanks! I was working on an arm & leg rig for it, similar to the one in the picture above, and its rendering now.
Keep the critiques coming!
An update…
I worked on the arms & legs, and this was the result.
Thank you all for your wonderful comments!

Yes, I know, the arms & legs look kind of messed up. I will probable change them sometime down the line, but right now I’m working on a game engine project, so this one will be finished later.
good head , alter the pelvic , and try to make a rig too .
