This is a scene I’ve put together for the weekend challenge this week. I’m a major noob at blender and was using this to practice mainly. I think I’m pretty much done (mentally). I’m sure there is a massive number of things I can improve though, so please, fire away with C&C please.
I kinda wanted the robot to look simple. Do you think I should smooth him out and make him more detailed?
I wanted to do a bump map on the wall to have the brick texture, but I don’t know how. Is there a good tutorial? I’m not sure I understand what you mean by low res…
What kind of details do you think would be nice? More details on the robot (eg. wires or something else?) or more details around him like trash?
Well, heh, thats a commentary on my pathetic modelling… lol. The background on the left is a picture that I put on a large plane. All I did to make it feel more apart of hte scene was to add a lamp right where the lamp in the pic was (which gave it depth and brought it into the scene) and using other lighting…
Also, are there good lighting tutorials?
Thanks so much, more c&c would be greatly appreciated (and needed)!

If it works and fool people, then it’s not pathetic

Well, just meant that the wall gave the impression of being taken from a video game. The texture doesn’t give the impression of being made for high res rendering.
Alas, I am not well placed to talk about professional texturing being a noob meself. Try desaturing your texture and use it as a bump map.

You mentionned wire, good idea. Add pneumatic pistons. Make the fingers articulated instead of a simple bent cylinder, smooth the shoulder sphere… etc
