Robots character animation

I used this freely available robot model to create a short animation.

that was cool, nice toonshading, funny sounds.

lol, yeah, nice SFX, and shaders too. I like it.

Nice work.

Yeah. Flippyneck’s robot comes in handy for quick animation.
I’m surprised it isn’t used alot how other software have the lowploy man.

LOL! That was pretty funny. Good work.

Nice work. Now make an entire cartoon.

That is COOL!
I downloaded the robots and did a neat animation with YafRay.

One problem though, after a while I lose track of the original pose and some of the bones get twisted up (Like blinking the eyelids). Is there any way of keeping it clean during the animation?

cute animation. it looked like the feet slid a bit during the walk. but that might be an optical illusion created by the AO noise.

Spin- select all the bones and press alt-R and alt-G to clear the bones location and rotation back to the original pose.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, it’s really great not having to set up all the rigging - it can be a nightmare. What’s also really great about FLippynecks robots is that you don’t have to worry about distorted skin. Every time a find some interesting pose on normal ‘connected’ characters, the skin gets distorted and twisted due to lack of control over the ‘roll’ of the bones in Blender (nothing to do with weight painting). If anyone has some sort of trick about fixing the rolling of IK bones in Blender, please share!

I am truly looking forward to an update of Blenders animation capabilities. Hopefully, Orange will help, though I hope it will breed a well thought out generic system, and not some hackish jobs that will do the job for the day.

Right, that’s what I’m talking about. However, a good tip is getting rid of overshooting IPOs. You can do it automatically by selecting some IPOs and pressing Shift-S (snap) and selecting horizontal.

Another Animation

Here’s my lame attempt at the ROBOTS.

I tried to make a QuickTime format (*.mov) file to post, but the compression is horrible. I’d have to make a 47MB QT-file to equal the quality of the other files.

I used Alt-R and Alt-G on “some” bones. And it works nice. The robot BLEND file uses ISO, converted to Keys. So you can EASILY duplicate individual motions. The problem I have is figuring which one to use again, there are over 50 keys. The next version of Blender, I would like to see a “Note” or “Comment window” for animation key, for quick reference.

I’ve read a doc that more than 50% of elysiun don’t know how to rig a mesh or use the NLA.

I’ll admit the first time I looked at a IPO window I got nervous, but when I see works by @ndy,Basse,Slikdigit,Vinicius I get pump up and want to become a better animator. The little we learn now with these preriged models will help us understand the technical side, so when the rewrite comes in we’ll be ready and be in foucused on the artistic flow of the animation side of blender.

Stay animated.
Ronin.

That’s great! Really funny.

About using quicktime files, try using mpeg4. For some reason, Blender crashes when I try to generate quicktime files with the new super-cool h.264 codec.

lol
that is awsome very robot like (i would say lifelike but they are robots)

I really liked the sound fx
