Recently my brother-in-law bought a little rubberduck (inflatable, zodiac, whatever you call it in your area). Now we often go out to sea and catch ‘crayfish’. I’m not sure if it is a local name or not, but on the permit it is actually called ‘East Coast Rock Lobster’.
Does anyone here ever do the same? It would be interesting to know what it is like in different parts of the world.
In South Africa there is big scale illegal poaching, run by orginaised crime syndicates. This unfortunately results in the total destruction of the marine life here - fcking bastards!! So now there are not many big lobsters left. According to the permit (which one is obviously obliged to get) it states that you may only take out 4 lobsters/person and they have to be a certain minimum size. Furthermore crayfishing is only allowed during summer. Of course, the poachers simply take everything they get - cnts!
Anyway, its fun to go out and catch lobsters. Sit on an open little boat, get scorched by the sun and washed cool by the waves (its a wet deck) and discuss all sorts of important topics over a few cold ones - often a bit salty from sea water:)
Edit: I read on Wikipedia that crayfish are actually freshwater creatures resembling small lobsters. In South Africa we refer to sea lobsters as crayfish…
