It’s been done before, I remember two threads about this, but I can’t find them with a quick search. @SterlingRoth were you one of the people that knows how to do this?

This is kinda like what you are doing, but it’s a good place to start.

Use a curve like this.

  • Add>Curve>Curve Spirals>Archemedian
  • The only settings you need to change are Turns, Radius Growth, and the Output Curve Type.
  • Set all the curve points to Automatic (V) and extrude the outermost point so the shutter goes straight down.
  • Use an array modifier and a curve modifier on the shutter object.
