Roman Watch Tower

Great Job on the tower, everyone will have a different idea of what ‘looks good’ to them.

Keep on blending

ah

Hi everyone, thanks for the comments.

Edeehem: I think you are right about the horizon and the tree both looking a little off. I’ll try a few adjustments in my spare time. Incidentally, the tree is indeed an alpha mapped plane (from here), but the bushes are particle duplicators (perhaps I sholud bite the bullet and learn one of the tree scripts).

If anyone’s interested, towers like this were generally built along some kind of line or frontier. It is generally believed that the guards could use there braziers to pass a signal along the line, a bit like that bit in Lord of the Rings. Having said all that every example I am aware of had at least some basic form of fortification around the outside, so there would be a little more stuff around the tower if I was being completely accurate.

hey, me like ^^
It’s a great model, I think.
Are you going to expand on the theme and create bath houses, forums, arena’s and other roman-inspired buildings? I really advise you to do that!
Keep it up

This looks really nice!
I had a look at your reference pictures and the brazier looks is on a longer pole, it extends out nicely beyond the roof edge.
Agree that the grass looks rather large & patchy. Reduce the size of the blades and increase the density and I think it will be great.
Those… bush things… in the background look a bit odd - especially since they’re all the same height? Looks like a carefully trimmed hedge.
