Hey… I’m trying to achieve a rope using only modifiers, curves, and internal blender textures. The rope is built from one cube with the bottom and top faces deleted. Then duplicated 4 times using an array, and duplicated upwards using a second array. Then twisted and fitted to curl around a third curve. Basically no actual modelling involved, which is fun. This gives a way to dynamically control the length of the rope, and how tight it’s twisted, so you can change it on the fly.
I’m currently just have some difficulty with the texturing. Any suggestions on how to achieve a believable rope texture without using anything external?
It’s not much, I guess, a rope… but the way it’s designed is as a good basis for animating the rope, for example how it grows and twists around itself, if the rare opportunity for that ever presents itself. Just a few more kinks I need to iron out…
I should say the inspiration for trying this is http://www.blendernation.com/2011/09/07/videotutorial-how-to-create-a-rope-in-blender/. However, the metholodgy is a bit different.
