No part of this rose is modelled or sculpted, it’s alll geometry nodes. I’m using Blender geometry nodes to create fully procedural plants and I really wanted to aim for artistic freedom and ability to stylize. The same node network produces all the leaves, sepals, and rose petals, just by tweaking a few key settings. All the venation is actually present in the geometry, and procedural materials use this information (via attributes) to dynamically control shading on different parts of the leaf/petal.
The branching system uses curves with spiral profiles to form the stalk, petioles, and petiolules (once I found out the names it only feels right to use them- is anything cuter than a petiolule??). And then you draw a stroke and the rose appears along it! It’s actually very fun to doodle with.
I’ve used tweaks to the same set-up to so far make hydrangeas, carnations, eucalyptus, rosemary, olive, and laurel. I’ve been terrible at keeping up with an online presence, but plan to share more soon!
And it’s not just for me! This is the first finished flower for v2.0 of my Draw Geometry Nodes Flower add-on. I can’t possibly render all the flowers I want to see by myself, so I’d like to share them in the hopes it inspires more flowers in Blender (and soon hopefully UE5)! Version 1 is currently available in my ArtStation shop ( https://www.artstation.com/a/31314136 ) - it’s outdated for Blender 3.6, but you can pre-order for v2.0 now and get the lowest price and free life-time updates! Everything goes straight back into sharing more with the art community, and your support means the world =)
