Is there any way of rotating an edge (shortcut) withbout passing throught the CTRL-E menu?
For some strange reason blender’s menus are slow on my laptop(intel 945GMA graphics, ubuntu Hardy) .

I don’t think there is
although you can press Ctrl+E and the 3 (for CW) or 4 (for CCW)

you might not have to wait for your slow menu to show up
